I’ve been doing some research into various types of plant-based, sustainable cleaning products for my home. To my surprise, one of the products turns out to be Bon Ami which my mother used when I was a kid. Bon Ami was developed in 1886 and the ingredients have not changed. It is made from powdered feldspar, limestone, baking soda, and soda ash. It can be used on stainless steel, porcelain, natural stone, fiberglass, and acrylic. It can be used to clean pots and pans, countertops, cooktops, toilet bowls, tubs, and shower stalls. Not tested on animals, non-toxic, and made with recycled-paper packaging. And it’s cheap! I plan on doing a lot more research on sustainable cleaning and will post more information here in the future.
